Year in Review: 2017

The thing that I will always find strange about 2017 is how one year could be so good for me on a micro -level and so scary/strange on a macro-level.

Which is why I end up nodding vigorously when someone says something like, "burn in a fire, 2017," but then having to reflect on all the individual gifts and joys I experienced this year.

On a personal level, I achieved three lifetime goals in 2017. I traveled to Ireland, got a book contract, and welcomed a new baby into our home. These are things that I have longed to do my whole life, so in a way, 2017 will always be special to me.

I also lost some things in 2017. Aside from you know, the world, my two favorite shows, The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars both ended. Pretty Little Liars finale was actually the night my son was born--a very heavy-handed message from the universe of "Seriously, grow up now."

Best Film: The Big Sick. We got a baby sitter to see this in theaters, which was silly because it was available on amazon prime. However, I howled with laughter, and wept with joy during this incredible film. Go see it if you haven't!

Best New Show: The Good Place. I watched all of season 1 on netflix, and we loved it so much. My husband won our fantasy football league by starting Blake Bortels only because of this show #JacksonvilleJaguarsRule

Best Netflix Show: Tie: 13 Reasons Why and The Crown Season 2

Best New Song: I have a very funny story about Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran, and I am fond of that song, but I think my song of the year goes to "Praying" by Kesha.

Best Book I Read: There are so so many, but I think American War by Omar El-Akkad. It was also the first selection of my book club.

Countries Visited (outside US): 2--Ireland and we took a day trip to Belfast, so the United Kingdom as well.

Favorite Food/Drink: I tried eggnog for the first time this winter. I was convinced I would hate it, but after the one sip I had, I think I could possibly like it in sparing amounts.

Best New App: I got snapchat, but I don't quite get it. I do however have Givling where you answer trivia questions which crowd funds paying off people's student loans. I want HQ, but I have an android, so I have to wait.

Races Run: Zero. I will get back into it.

Overall Grade for the Year: A-.

The minus is because it was a tough year for the world, and I am part of the world, but overall it was one of my best years yet.

Pop back next week where we can set goals for 2018!
